Revenue Generation
UO/E receives grants worth $597,000 in August

University Outreach and Extension received grant awards totaling $596,651 during August. Since the beginning of FY04, July 1, UO/E has been awarded $8,633,814 in grants and projects.

Awards

eMINTS, $247,722 (continuation) from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education; 7/1/03 through 6/30/04. The eMINTs Evaluation Project examines the impact of enhanced classroom technology and professional development on teaching practices and student achievement in elementary schools. Project manager: Bill Elder.

Diabetes Today, $66,110 (renewal) from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services; 9/11/03 through 6/29/04. Diabetes Today is an educational curriculum designed to decrease hospitalizations, deaths and costs due to diabetes and complications, and increase flu and pneumonia immunizations among people with the disease. UO/E provides oversight, support and evaluation in delivering curriculum with local partners. Project manager: Julie Middleton.

Male Responsibility Outreach, $63,750 (renewal) from the Missouri Department of Social Services; 6/1/03 through 5/31/04. The project educates male teens about prenatal care, including the effects of smoking, alcohol and illicit drug use during and after pregnancy; and teaches them how to care for their child after birth. Project manager: Julie Middleton.

Development of an Innovation Information Infrastructure, $210,000 (new) from the National Science Foundation; 9/1/03 through 8/31/05. This project will help entrepreneurs use innovations to increase profitability by identifying predictors of successful innovative behaviors and increasing the transformation of knowledge to create an electronic information infrastructure. Project manager: Mike Nichols.

Missouri Small Business Development Center, $9,069 supplement from the U.S. Small Business Administration. Funds support continuation of MO SBDC's comprehensive management and technical services. Project manager: Max Summers.

Proposals

During August, University Outreach and Extension submitted grant and contract proposals worth $853,293.

Comprehensive Longitudinal eMINTS Assessment Review (CLEAR), $553,293 (new) requested from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education; 10/1/03 through 9/30/04. The Office of Social and Economic Data Analysis will study the viability of eMINTS in improving elementary education through the enhanced use of technology. Project manager: Adam Bickford.

St. Louis Metropolitan Area 4-H Geography Clubs, $300,000 (new) requested from National Geographic Society Education Foundation; 1/2/04 through 1/2/07. Funds will support the establishment of 20 4-H after-school geography clubs in Missouri and Illinois. High-school participants will develop and implement geography assessments in their communities. Project manager: Jo Turner.
