University Outreach and Extension received $247,609 in grant awards during June and July.
Small Business Development Center Defense Economic Transition, $100,000 (continuation), from the U.S. Small Business Administration; 10/1/02 to 9/30/03. This project assists individuals and firms in their adjustments to the dislocation and disruption resulting from reductions in defense spending. Project manager: Max Summers.
Global Leadership Education for the 21st Century, $147,609 (new) from the U.S. Department of State; 6/2/03 to 2/28/06. Global Leadership Education builds practical skills for transforming conflict, engendering multicultural understanding, and engaging the faith community in fostering democratic development for communities in Missouri and Thailand. Project managers: Mary Leuci and Sandra Hodge.

Family Nutrition Project, $5,158,363 (continuation) from the Missouri Department of Social Services; 10/1/03 to 9/30/04. The Family Nutrition Education Program helps low-income Missourians increase their knowledge of food safety, improve eating habits and lifestyles, and manage food resources. Project manager: Jo Britt-Rankin.
Missouri Educational Indicators and School Improvement Program, $394,210 (renewal) from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education; 7/1/03 to 6/30/04. University Outreach and Extension's Office of Social and Economic Data Analysis develops resources and performance and demographic information to support the Missouri School Improvement Program. Project manager: Bill Elder.
Testing Models of Social and Economic Change using Spatial Analysis of Small Area Geographies, $18,401 (new) from the Department of Housing and Urban Development; 9/1/03 to 3/31/05. OSEDA will work with the Center for Economic Information at the UM-Kansas City to test models of social and economic change. Project manager: Bill Elder.
Project Success, $138,600 (renewal) from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, 7/1/03 to 6/30/04. Project Success provides technical assistance and consultation to 10 DESE teams addressing systems development and organizational theory, research on effective educational practices and fiscal management for school districts. Project manager: Bill Elder.
School District Information, $39,965 (new) from Columbia Public Schools, 8/15/03 to 6/30/04. OSEDA is evaluating student information to improve teaching and learning. Project manager: Bill Elder.
Mercury Lamp Recycling, $622,717 (new) from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency; 10/1/03 to 9/30/06. The Business and Industry Program, Office of Waste Management, Business Resources Information Development Group and Missouri Training Institute will partner with the Mercury-Lamp Education for Recycling Cooperative (MERC) to develop and coordinate an outreach program to help achieve EPA's lamp recovery and recycling goals. Project manager: Steve Wyatt.
Missouri Market Development, $175,000 (renewal) from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources-EIERA; 7/1/03 to 6/30/04. The Missouri Market Development Program provides financial incentives, technical assistance and informational services to businesses, governments and other organizations to create markets for recovered materials and recycled-content products. Project manager: Steve Wyatt.
Workforce Development, $565,226 (renewal) from the Missouri Department of Economic Development: 7/1/03 to 6/30/04. Workforce Development is a combination of programs -- FastTrack New Venture, WorkKeys Assessment and Interpretation for Dislocated Workers, and the Career Information Hotline -- to assist entrepreneurial and dislocated workers of Missouri. Project manager: Steve Wyatt.
Office of Waste Management, $68,828 (new) from the University of Massachusetts/Lowell Research Foundation; 7/1/03 to 6/30/04. The Office of Waste Management will provide information and education on stewardship; review and update publications; and conduct research on combined waste collection programs. Project manager: Steve Wyatt.
