Drought information, resources posted on AgEBB

Information on drought conditions and resources for regional extension specialists is available on AgEBB.

"Most of the reports I am hearing from residents of northwestern Missouri compare the current drought to the drought of the late 1980s," says Pat Guinan, MU extension associate in climatology. "The long-term Palmer indices corroborate this. The last time an average monthly Palmer index was in an extreme drought condition for northwestern Missouri was in June of 1989."

The Palmer Index is a formula for determining dryness using temperature and rainfall information.

The drought website includes links to weather summaries, news releases, the Missouri Hay Market and other resources.

Regional specialists working with drought-affected farmers who need information or resources should contact Dave Baker, assistant dean of agriculture and natural resources.
