Dear Colleagues:
UMC Chancellor Richard Wallace announced July 10 that he will retire Aug. 31, 2004, following 38 years of service to the University.
UM President Elson Floyd has indicated that this next year will be devoted to studying the relationship between the MU campus administration and the system administration and to exploring opportunities to achieve increased efficiencies.
President Floyd's primary objective in exploring consolidation is to create a university organization that is relevant to our times while preserving the quality of educational programs and capitalizing on the unique strengths of the individual campuses and University Outreach and Extension. Budget reductions totaling $126 million during the last two years necessitate a focus on new measures to achieve efficiencies. The Board of Curators has authorized President Floyd to make such organizational changes as he deems prudent and necessary and in the best interest of the University to consolidate administrative positions and functions.
This week's announcements do not change UO/E's administrative structure or operations. As the analysis of administrative relationships proceeds in the coming months, I will keep you informed of any developments that relate to UO/E operations.
Be assured, however, that the University Outreach and Extension mission continues to be critical and essential to the University's land-grant mission and to the service of Missourians.
With all best regards,
Ron Turner
