UO/E receives $314,768 in grants

University Outreach and Extension received $314,768 in grant awards during May.

Awards

Update and Development of the MoDOT Socioeconomic Indicator Resource, $135,241 (renewal) from the Missouri Department of Transportation MBE/WBE; 4/15/03 - 4/1/04. Purpose: To identify relevant social and economic data, and to develop and implement authoritative information products and electronic applications for use by MoDOT personnel in planning and project development, and for Title VI and Environmental Justice applications. Project managers: Lance Huntley/Bill Elder.

Elders Count Service Plan 2003-2004, $15,000 (new) from the St. Louis County Health Department; 4/1/03 - 9/30/03. Purpose: OSEDA will consult and assist the St. Louis County Department of Health in the development of indicators, creation and update of the "Elders Count" database, and analysis of database indicators. Project manager: Bill Elder.

North Central Region Small Farm Task Force, $4,527 (new) from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; 1/1/03-12/31/03. Purpose: To coordinate workshop and website design for the North Central Region Small Farm Task Force. Project manager: Debi Kelly.

Entrepreneurial Education Foundation, $120,000 (new) from the Kauffman Foundation; 3/1/03 - 2/28/04. Purpose: To implement FastTrac training in market area as agreed to with the Entrepreneurial Education Foundation. This partnering relationship is designed to help communities start and stabilize FastTrac, have time to build coalitions and find ways to sustain FastTrac without ongoing financial assistance from the foundation. Project manager: Max Summers.

Empowerment Zone - Receptionist, $40,000 (new) from the St. Louis Regional Empowerment Zone; 4/1/03-3/31/06. Purpose: To provide clerical support for SBDC St. Louis Empowerment Zone Project. Project manager: Max Summers.

Proposals

University Outreach and Extension submitted grant proposals totaling $240,000 during May.

Male Responsibility Outreach, $200,000 (renewal) from the Missouri Department of Social Services; 6/1/03 - 5/31/04. Purpose: To educate fathers on importance of prenatal care; the negative effects of teen pregnancy, and smoking during and after pregnancy; and on child care to prevent accidental deaths of their infant children. Project manager: Julie Middleton.

St. Louis-Jefferson Solid Waste Management, $40,000 (new) from the St. Louis-Jefferson Solid Waste Management District; 6/15/03 - 12/15/04. Purpose: To establish a cooperative program to market waste reduction and recycling services to businesses and organizations throughout the region, thereby decreasing the amount of waste requiring disposal. Project Manager: Max Summers.
