Boone County Council members presented a certificate of appreciation to the Boone County Commission, which issued a proclamation. A council member developed local program flyers, which were used in an "Each One Reach 10" campaign.

Clinton County Kids Farm Safety Day kicked off UO/E Week events in Clinton County with demonstrations on livestock, chemical, tractor and grain bin safety presented by NW Region specialists. The first meeting of Garden and Grow, a youth gardening group, met to plan a vegetable garden at Lathrop Senior Apartments. Produce will be donated to community food banks. Master Gardeners replanted flower barrels in downtown Plattsburg. Council members hosted Lunch on the Courthouse lawn, where 150 people dined on barbecue, watched farm safety demonstrations and viewed 4-H and Master Gardener displays. A certificate of appreciation was presented to county commissioners, and John Saunders, retired state director of agriculture, and wife Jeanne presented a copy of the Missouri State Fair centennial book to the county council. The council also honored Louie and Thelma Van Buren, who established an endowment for Clinton County extension to support youth and human environmental sciences programming.

Henry County A display with a garden goodie giveaway was featured at the Henry County Library. Cookies baked by council members were delivered to four media outlets along with a note of thanks. Commissioners signed a proclamation, which was published in the newspaper. Master Gardeners and specialists hosted a booth at the local farmer's market, which brought a continuous stream of citizens bearing branches, leaves and questions. The council also purchased advertising in two local newspapers.

Johnson County Faculty and staff presented Johnson County commissioners with a certificate of appreciation during a commission meeting. Commissioners also signed and presented a proclamation. A photo of the signing and a news release were printed in the local newspaper. Home-baked cookies along with a note of thanks were delivered to local media. Visitors to the extension center also were treated to cookies. A gardening basket, featuring garden supplies, certificate for a free soil sample, a canning manual, kids' cookbook and the Grounds for Gardening notebook, was given away in a drawing.

Knox County University Outreach and Extension participated in Government Day for local eighth-graders, explaining how extension is part of the services provided by local government. Council and staff members also presented a certificate of appreciation to county commissioners.

Phelps County Events were held daily in Phelps County. County commissioners received a certificate of appreciation and an extension mug with balloons to say "thanks." Thank-you balloons also were presented to the county clerk and extension council members. Coffee and cookies were offered to visitors as well as information on local programs.

Putnam County As part of their community service unit, teen EXCEL members started UO/E Week by landscaping around the Putnam County courthouse. "It makes a world of difference," one observer said. Commissioners signed a proclamation, which was published in the local paper. A display in the courthouse lobby provided program brochures and guidesheets to visitors. During a barbecue luncheon on the courthouse lawn, Leader's Honor Roll recipients were recognized, along with retiring council members. An informational booth was set up at the Lake Thunderhead Expo.

Shelby County Patriotism was high as staff and council members celebrated UO/E Week by honoring Shelby County residents serving in the military. Yellow ribbons were tied to the railing outside the extension office, and council members passed out flag pins in honor of the troops overseas. Coffee and donuts were served on May 20 to thanks businesses and residents for their support. County commissioners attended the extension council meeting, where they signed a proclamation and received a certificate of appreciation. A reverse road block was held at noon one day, reaching more than 75 people in less than an hour. Drivers who received a bag of goodies with a red sticker were invited to visit the extension center to receive a prize. The Shelby County Civic Club donated flowers, which were planted outside the office. Each business received a card telling them about extension services and encouraging them to visit the office. Winners of the daily extension quiz bowl were entered into a drawing for a prize - an extension mug filled with candy.

Texas County A full-page advertisement, sponsored by five county banks, ran in county newspapers. During an open house at the new facility, nearly 100 people enjoyed hamburgers, hot dogs and trimmings. Personal invitations were mailed to 150 extension supporters. The Houston Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new office, and council members presented the Texas County Commission with a certificate of appreciation.
