Youth civic engagement VISTA project underway

Eight new AmeriCorps*VISTA workers began work in seven county University Outreach and Extension offices. The volunteers will focus on youth civic engagement projects, designed to help young people in those communities understand and participate in community decision-making and governance.

Welcome to the following VISTA workers: Patti Triggs, Camdenton; Regina Evans, Ava; Melissa Robinson and Cindy Sharp, Kansas City; Rachel Pamperin, Lebanon; Daisy Washington, Paris; Branson Merrill, Farmington; and Cathern Long, Hartville.

VISTA workers serve as full-time project coordinators for one year, working with regional extension specialists, local governments and community organizations.

The youth civic engagement project is part of a statewide effort to involve 300 middle- and high school-aged youth in programs that promote an ethic of service and civic responsibility in communities.

As additional information becomes available, it will be shared via Weekly News.
