Grant writing, fund raising among professional development offerings

"Fund Raising Basics" and "Successful Grant Proposals" are among the upcoming professional development offerings. The one-day courses, presented by the UMSL Nonprofit Management and Leadership Program, will be offered via ITV in six locations.

"Fund Raising Basics" will be offered May 5 in Kirksville, Mexico and Salem, and May 12 in Camdenton, Nevada and Park Hills. John McClusky, director of the Nonprofit Management and Leadership Program, along with a panel of fund-raising professionals, will present the workshop. Topics will help address effective ways to identify the sources of funds and the effective means to raise those funds, including the cycle of giving (i.e., the steps in conducting effective fund-raising); drafting a case statement for support; how to identify, cultivate and solicit funding prospects; and board and staff roles in fund raising.

"Successful Grant Proposals" will be offered June 16 in Kirksville, Mexico and Salem, and June 20 in Camdenton, Nevada and Park Hills. Glenda O'Neal, president of Grants Unlimited, Danville, Calif., will focus on identifying prospective foundation and corporate grant makers and writing successful proposals. Workshop content addresses a five-step grantsmanship program; where to look for information about grant makers; and how to apply information about grant makers to the grant-seeking process. It is also geared to the grant writing process and will address standard proposal format and content, grant writing tips and common errors in grant writing.

These courses are open to the public. UO/E faculty and staff can enroll in the courses via the professional development registration site beginning April 15.
