UO/E receives $4.3 million renewal grant for nutrition program

University Outreach and Extension was awarded $4,392,116 from the Missouri Department of Social Services for continuation of the Family Nutrition Program. FNP is one component of the Family Nutrition Education Program, which teaches positive behaviors for optimal nutrition and health. The FNP portion of the program focuses on food-stamp recipients, particularly infants and preschoolers and their adult caregivers, and women who are pregnant. The grant provides funding through Sept. 30, 2003. Project manager: Jo Britt-Rankin.

Proposals

In March, University Outreach and Extension submitted proposals totaling $101,035:

Farmer Technology Application, $22,350 (new) to U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development; 10/1/03 - 9/30/04. The Southern-Delta Center Telecommunications Community Resource Center would provide area farmers with high-quality technology training through interactive video and computer labs to increase best practice specification for technology application on the farm. Project managers: Janet Kline and Ray Nabors.

Missouri Department of Transportation MBE/WBE, $78,185 (new) from Missouri Department of Transportation; 11/1/03 - 4/30/04. The Missouri Small Business Development Centers would assist the Missouri Department of Transportation in increasing minority- and woman-owned business participation in the department's competitive bidding and informal quotation processes. Project manager: Max Summers

Missouri Business and Industry Development Program, $5,000 (renewal) from the U.S. Department of Commerce/Economic Development; 4/01/03 - 3/31/04. The Missouri Business and Industry Development Program would improve the technical and managerial capabilities of Missouri's manufacturers, as well as the economic development capacity of Missouri's communities, through technical assistance in quality control, plant layout and design, manufacturing processes, inventory control, materials handling, marketing, international trade, and compliance with state and federal regulations. Project manager: Max Summers.
