Twelve Martin Luther King Jr. mini-grants have been awarded to support local nonviolence and community service projects in nine communities.
The UO/E-sponsored mini-grants support implementation of the Carry-On Suitcase Project, a youth service activity that provides personal hygiene items for children, youth and adults staying in domestic abuse shelters; and RETHINK Anger Management, a six-week program that helps adults use appropriate strategies to deal with anger and children's challenging behaviors.
The MLK Jr. Mini-grant winners are:
Members of the advisory committee: Tammy Gillespie, children, youth and families project director and MLK project coordinator; Nina Chen, WC human development specialist, Barb Casady, Missouri 4-H Foundation program coordinator; Steve Henness, 4-H extension assistant; Sarah Staude, WC 4-H youth specialist; and five members of Wal-Center 4-H Club in Cass County.
