Cape Girardeau county faculty, staff and council members played host to UM President Floyd, March 7, hosting an afternoon reception at the outreach and extension center. It was President Floyd's first visit to an extension center.

While in southeast Missouri, Floyd also visited with the editorial boards of the Southeast Missourian and the Sikeston Standard-Democrat, and attended a Sikeston reception hosted by UO/E and the UM Alumni Alliance.

About 40 people attended the Cape Girardeau County reception. David Ludwig, Cape Girardeau County council chairman, welcomed Floyd; Jim Snider, assistant to the president for state governmental relations; and David Russell, director of University Relations. Ludwig also introduced local guests - B.W. Harrison, retired extension employee; County Commissioners Larry Bock and Joe Gambill; and John Lichtenegger, former UM curator.

Ludwig also talked about educational programs delivered by local extension specialists and about community support for University Outreach and Extension.

At the reception and editorial board meetings, President Floyd stressed the University's commitment to access, accountability and affordability.

Since the southeast Missouri trip, President Floyd has referred to his visit in presentations to other groups to stress the importance of the University's outreach mission.
