Councils, staff encouraged to begin UO/E Week plans

As the new council year begins, so should planning for University Outreach and Extension Week, May 18-24, says Sandy Stegall, communications officer.

A subcommittee of the 2003 University Outreach and Extension Committee has developed suggestions for engaging "casual users" - those individuals who draw on a single UO/E resource, who are first-time users or who occasionally participate in education programs. For example, people who only use extension for soil tests or teachers who participate in the embryology school enrichment program are casual users.

"Cross marketing is an excellent way to let people in our communities know that we have resources and programs available on a lot of other topics," says Human Environmental Sciences Specialist Wendy Brumbaugh, who chairs the subcommittee. "We need to ask what other interests would this audience have."

Ideas developed by the committee are available on the UO/E Week website.
