Gov. Bob Holden announced, Jan. 8, the appointment of Cheryl D. S. Walker of St. Louis and Don Walsworth of Marceline to the University of Missouri Board of Curators.
Walker, 39, is a counsel with the firm of Bryan Cave LLP in St. Louis. Prior to that, she served as the senior counsel for the Deutsche Financial Services Corp. Walker earned a bachelor's degree from UM-Rolla and earned her law degree from Washington University School of Law.
Walker is a former board member and two-term president of the St. Louis City Mental Health Board of Trustees and a commissioner of the Tower Grove Park Board of Commissioners. She is a board member of the Salvation Army and Haven of Grace.
Walsworth, 68, is president and chief executive officer of Walsworth Publishing Co. of Marceline. He earned a bachelor's degree from UM-Columbia.
Walsworth served two terms on the Marceline City Council and one term as mayor. He has been elected to a variety of boards of directors, including Citizens Bank and Trust Co. of Chillicothe; Citizens Bancshares Co. of Chillicothe; and Marceline Savings and Loan. He was appointed to the Missouri State Highway and Transportation Commission and was a member of the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Health. In 1989, he was awarded the UM Distinguished Service Award.
Walker succeeds Malaika Horne, and Walsworth succeeds Paul Steele, both of whose terms are expired. The Missouri Senate must confirm both appointments.
