MS FrontPage Tutorial -- University Outreach and Extension
Formatting text
You will need to have the "Formatting" toolbar turned on for this section.
On the Formatting toolbar, you will see several icons for formatting text that are similar to those found in Word Perfect or other word processors. You can change the font face and size, style (bold, italic, underline), and alignment (left, right and center) and color of text.
- Highlight the section of text you wish to format
- Click the icon for the desired formatting style
You can also change the font face of text. However, the user will only see the font you choose if they have the same font installed on THEIR computer. Using fonts such as Arial, Helvetica, and Courier are very safe. Comic Sans is a pretty common font as well. But, if you choose an obscure font like Mickey, it will just appear as the default font (usually Times New Roman) to most users.
More formatting style choices are available by going to FORMAT à Font... and switching to the "Special Styles" tab. Here you will find blink () and strikeout (
strikeout looks like this) styles as well as others.Tips:
- Use italic text sparingly, as it can be difficult to read on low resolution or small monitors.
- Don't use blinking text at all, unless you have a REALLY good reason. It is distracting and annoying to most users.
- To revert text to the default font, size and color, highlight the section of text and hit CTRL-SPACEBAR
Horizontal lines are commonly used as dividers in Web pages. To add a horizontal line to your page, click Insert à Horizontal Line.
Below is a horizontal line 75% wide and 6 pixels high:
Right clicking on the line will open the properties for it, where you can change the width and height. Changing the color of the line will not work in Netscape.
