Connecting to the server
Open the FrontPage Explorer and connect to outreach.missouri.edu server. Open
the Web called workshop2 and log in with the username training and
the password snoopy
Be careful -- it's case sensitive.
Change to the "Folders" View. Select a "New Folder" and
change it to your first name.
Formatting Text
- Switch to the Page View
- Open the file in your directory called template.htm
- Type a few sentences of text and practice any or all of the following
formatting functions:
- Change font face and/or size
- Font color
- Bold, underline, italic
- Justification
- Indent
- Spell check your page
- Use Save As to save the page in your own directory as index.htm
If you don't get it in your own directory, you may be over-writing someone
else's file, so Be Careful!
- View your page in Internet Explorer. The URL will be:
http://outreach.missouri.edu/workshop2/yourname/index.htm
(You can click the "Preview in browser" icon on the toolbar to
bring up your page quickly)
- Page Properties and Lists
- Give your page a title.
- Create a bulleted or numbered list.
- Change the bullet/number style
- Save your page and view it in Netscape.
- Insert an Image
- Choose an image from the images folder and place it in your page.
- Find an image on the Web (with your browser), then place it in your page.

- Add alternate text for your images and increase the vertical and
horizontal space allowance.
- Save your page. When asked, you will want to save the image files out to
the server. Make sure they go into your own directory.
- View your page in IE.
- Hyperlinks
- Make a hyperlink on your page to the Outreach home page.
- Make a hyperlink to the page of someone else in the room.
- Make an internal link from one section of your page to a bookmark
somewhere else on your page.
- Save your page
- View it in IE and test your links.
- Tables
Create a 1 x 3 table on your page
Modify the table properties so that the table is centered, freely adjusts to
the size of the table contents (no size specified) and has borders 3 pixels
wide.
Modify the cell properties so that the outside 2 cells adjust to the size of
their contents (no size specified), but the center cell is fixed at 30 pixels
wide. Turn on the "No wrap" option for the center cell so that it
will always stay 30 pixels wide.
Place a graphic in the left cell and some text in the right cell. Leave the
center cell empty.
Add another row to your table (TAB key)
Use the Eraser tool on the Tables Toolbar to remove the two dividers in the
new row, so that it is all one cell.
Type some text in this new cell.
Save your page.
View it in your browser.
- FrontPage Components
- Include the provided footer file in your page. footer.htm
- Add a hit counter to your page.
- Add a time stamp to your page.
- Add a comment to your page.
- Save and view in Internet Explorer.
File conversion
- Open a Microsoft Word document
- Create a new document in FrontPage
- Copy and paste sections of the document from Word to FrontPage
- Use Ctrl-Space Bar to reset the text to the default size and font
- Make a link from this new FP document to the first page you created –
index.htm
- Save your file in your directory, then view it and test your link
