Reports

FrontPage 98 allowed you to view a list of broken hyperlinks, and that was a very useful feature. In FP2000 they have expanded this feature to be a section called “Reports” that includes a listing of broken hyperlinks as well as many new report types.

When you switch to the “Reports” view,  FrontPage builds a fresh database of information about the current Web.  This can take a couple minutes to happen. If you are initially set to the Reports View when you open a web,  you will have to wait for the Reports View to generate it’s database before you can start working in the web.  Therefore, it’s a good idea to make sure you are in either the Page or Folder View when you open a web, AND when you close FrontPage.

This is a screen shot of the "Site Summary Report" that comes up when you first switch to the Reports View. From here you can choose any of the detailed reports.

A particularly useful report is Older Files.
This will generate a list of files that have not been changed in a number of days that you specify.  When keeping a site fresh and up to date, this will help you identify pages that need attention.

Just as in FrontPage 98, you can identify broken links and fix them quickly with the broken Hyperlinks report.

In general, these reports will help you manage your site and find problems that might otherwise go undetected.   It is definitely worth spending some time to get familiar with them.
