University Outreach and ExtensionMS FrontPage 2000 Tutorial

Saving and naming your file

Once you create a new page, you can save it into your FrontPage Web by clicking

FILE à Save As…

The Save As screen shows the folders within your FrontPage Web. To save your page INTO a subfolder, you must double click on the folder so that the view changes to show the contents of that subfolder. If you just click once on the folder name, so that it is highlighted, you will be saving into the main folder, not into the selected subfolder.

You also have the option to save your work to a local folder, your Desktop, the My Documents folder or even to another Web site folder (you will have to provide a user ID and password to do so).

Below the view of folders there are three lines you can change:

Page Title: this is the "user friendly" title of your page that will appear in the top, colored bar of the browser window. Your page title should be descriptive and meaningful. I.e.: Camden County University Outreach and Extension Center. If you have not already changed it, the title will be new_page1 or something like that. It's important to change it to something meaningful. Just click "Change" and type a new title.

File name: this is the actual name of your file and will be part of the "web address" or URL for your page. It is important to choose your file name carefully.

Save as type: This determines the suffix for your filename and also the format in which it will be saved. Normally you will choose either .htm or .html for web pages. Both of these are the same and you can use either one. It's a good idea to use one or the other consistently throughout your site.
