MS FrontPage
2000 Tutorial
Using Microsoft FrontPage 2000
Introduction
MS FrontPage is a client-server software application. This means that there are two parts to the software -- the client software package (FrontPage 2000) that you install on your PC hard drive, and server software installed on the web server, in our case outreach.missouri.edu, called FrontPage Server Extensions. These two pieces of software work together to make FrontPage a very powerful tool. They allow you to manage your files directly on the server; add automated features to your pages such as a search interface, hit counter, timestamp and others, which require the Extensions.
The client software on your computer is both a web page editor and a file management tool. It allows you to directly edit your web pages, move files around and manage your whole site without having to transfer files back and forth using FTP.
In addition to this, the FrontPage understands the relationships between files within your "FrontPage Web" and keeps them in tact. This means that when you move or rename files within your Web, the FP Explorer will automatically fix hyperlinks within your pages to accommodate the changes.
There have been several changes between FrontPage 98 and FrontPage 2000. For a summary of the major changes, see this page.
