Dynamic content on county & regional pages

Dynamic Web Content: web pages that you won't be able to edit

The calendar, staff list and county extension council pages within each county office site are generated from databases. That means that they do not exist as pages that you can edit within your web site. Below are instructions for how each of these data sets is updated.

Calendar

MU Extension calendar items are entered through the online reporting application. (new system as of 9/1/06)
http://extension.missouri.edu/webapps/

The instructions and other documentation for the new system are posted on the ETCS Helpdesk here: http://etcs.ext.missouri.edu/WAmanual/WAmanual-main.shtm

Tips for increasing the visibility of your events

  1. Always use a location name in the event title (IE  St. Charles County Plant Sale) so that when the event appears on the statewide calendar, it will be obvious WHERE in the state that event is happening.
  2. Calendar events are indexed by Google (and other search engines) so those little calendar entries could reach new audience members who are searching for local information.
    - Be sure to put town names in the descriptions as well as county names (if appropriate).
    - Use consumer-friendly terms
    - Always enter the address for the event venue
    - Link to a map (Mapquest or other service) whenever possible

Staff information

The staff list which is linked on the front of each county and regional site is drawn from the UM System personnel databases.
Updates are made by the following staff members on campus:

  • Diane Dews updates names, titles, office information for anyone who is paid by the university.
  • Brenda Montague updates information for county secretaries and anyone else paid by the counties. (Brenda should ALWAYS be informed whenever a secretary starts or leaves a position.)
  • Kate Akers adds and updates photos in the directory system.  Please send photos by e-mail as JPG files.
  • Paula Hudson is the MU Extension database administrator and can address other questions and problems not included above.
  • Debbie Ricker -- maintains county coverage information for field faculty

Customize your business card

Every faculty and staff member can customize their "business card" page in the directory to change their preferred display name, add information about their areas of work and professional background.

To do this, you can log into the MIS reporting application at http://extension.missouri.edu/webapps/
Then click on "Planning" and "Directory information"

You will see your on screen business card and below that are the following sections:
Specialties include (This is assigned by personnel. You cannot change it.)
Areas of work  and Professional background.

Click "edit my data" to the left of your business card.

Now you can:

  •  change your name as it is displayed on the card -- this is known as your preferred name.
  • describe your areas of work
  • give a synopsis of your professional background
  • add a Web site link to your professional site -- i.e. your county site or programmatic site
  • add a link to related Web resources (i.e. you might link to www.mypyramid.gov if you are an FNEP specialist)

County Council Membership

Council member information is kept in a statewide database.
One or two people from each office have access rights to the council member application. Usually it is the CPD and secretary.

If you cannot log in, and believe you should have access, please contact Debbie Ricker and she can set up access for you.

Please note that a signed authorization must be on file before activating the option to display a council member's e-mail address on the web site.
