A soil test will help! wheelbarrow.gif (4313 bytes)

  • Helps to improve your soil's ability to grow grass, roses, tomatoes or just about anything else that is grown in a lawn or garden. This test should be run every four years. Vegetable gardens or speciality plant beds should be run every year.
  • Test results will give readings for amounts of:
calcium, magnesium, potassium, and phosphorus.  A soil test will measure your soil's acidity level (pH) and organic matter content and tell you what additives your soil needs and how much to apply.

HOW TO PREPARE

  • Collect 2 cups of dried and pulverized soil. (Take samples from several locations in desired area, 1-6 inches deep, avoiding top inch of soil.)  Mix the samples to make one composite sample.
  • Soil has to be air dried only. (Do not put soil in microwave or oven.)
  • Bring sample(s) to:

University of Missouri Extension Center
Washington County Office
113 N Missouri Suite A
Potosi, MO  63664
(573) 438-2671

Soil samples are accepted between 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. There is a $13.00 charge per sample.

Results and recommendations will be returned by mail three to four weeks after dropping off sample(s).
