The St. Francois County Civic Youth Engagement VISTA program will assist in implementing a Mayor's Youth Advisory Council for the City
of Farmington. Our purpose for forming this council is to
more fully engage high school aged
students in the life of the community.
The structure of the Mayor's Council will be determined with the
input provided by the Mayor of Farmington, City Administrator and the
University of Missouri Extension representatives. Projects and
activities for the council will be determined by the Mayor and the
youth involved and could include:
-
Providing input to
the Mayor and/or City Council on issues and policies affecting youth
in the community
-
Organizing
city-wide community service projects for the Youth of Farmington
-
Surveying local
youth to determine issues that they feel are important and/or need
to be addressed
-
Organizing youth
forums where youth are invited to share their concerns and ideas
with local officials
-
Organizing voting
drives to increase voter turnout
-
Creating
informative publications for teens on youth issues
This page is
organized to provide more information on Mayor's Youth Councils
and Youth Civic Engagement. We have provided several examples of
the impact
of Mayor's Youth Councils,
resources
for forming a council, and a summary of the
benefits of forming a youth
council. We have also provided links to
several Mayor's Youth Council web pages to see these youth
councils at work. If you have any questions, please contact
