On January 1, 2006, C. Peter Magrath, President-Emeritus of the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges, joined the College Board as Senior Presidential Advisor; he is also engaged in consulting work, both in the U. S. and internationally.

From 1992 through 2005, he served as president of the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges (NASULGC). As CEO of the nation's oldest higher education association, Magrath represented NASULGC's member institutions in Washington, D.C., and in educational settings around the nation and world on issues of national importance to the higher education community.

As past president of three public universities, Magrath brings a broad perspective on higher education to his current job, including a long history of leadership in international education activities. His many national involvements have included serving in 1992-1993 on the Commission on the Future of the National Science Foundation, a group of scientists, industrialists and academic leaders that made recommendations to help chart future directions for the Foundation. He organized the Kellogg Commission on the Future of State and Land-Grant Universities, consisting of 27 present and former presidents of major public universities that promoted an agenda of change and renewal for higher education. He served on the Board of Directors of the Salzburg Seminar and previously worked on the Southern Education Foundation's advisory committee dedicated to promoting educational opportunity for African-American and minority students in the Southern states.

A political scientist with a B.A. degree from the University of New Hampshire and a Ph.D. degree from Cornell University, he served as president on the University of Missouri System from 1985-1991. Previously, he was president of the University of Minnesota-with 60,000 students, the largest U. S. campus in terms of enrollment-from 1974-1984. Before that, Magrath headed the State University of New York at Binghamton from 1972-74.

Between 1968-72, Magrath held faculty and administrative posts at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln-also a NASULGC member. He began his academic career at Brown University, moving from instructor to professor of political science from 1961-68, as well as serving as associate dean.

The author of numerous books, monographs and articles on American constitutional law and history, higher education, and international affairs, he has been active on many national higher education commissions, task forces, and committees. Magrath has been recognized with honorary doctoral degrees from Brown University; Lucian Blaga University, Sibiu, Romani; the University of Nebraska; the University of New Hampshire; the State University of New York at Binghamton; Michigan State University; University of Northern Kentucky; Utah State University; and the Pennsylvania State University. In 1998, the University of Minnesota honored him by naming the central library on its St. Paul campus after him. He is married to Deborah C. Howell, who served as Washington bureau chief for the Newhouse Newspapers and Editor of Newhouse News Service from 1990 until 2005, when she became Ombudsman at the Washington Post.

John Hope Bryant is a businessman, an author of BANKING ON OUR FUTURE, a book on youth and family financial literacy published by Beacon Press, a former United Nations goodwill ambassador to the United States, a local partner with former President Clinton in an effort to educate every child in Harlem, New York in financial literacy, a national partner with former President Clinton and his foundation to greatly expand access to the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) for victims of Hurricane Katrina and all low-wealth Americans, a Presidential Appointee for President George W. Bush, a Young Global Leader for the World Economic Forum, the founder of Operation HOPE, and working with HOPE spokesman Ambassador Andrew Young, the author of a new movement in America and a clear and compelling vision for the eradication of poverty in the 21st century; the Silver Rights Movement.

In his role as a private sector businessman John Hope Bryant runs Bryant Group of Companies, and has served on several corporate boards, including the corporate board of directors for 3-Day Blinds, Inc. and Southern Pacific Bank. John Hope Bryant currently serves on the community board for Wells Fargo & Co. and the national advisory board for First American Corporation, a Fortune 300 company.

John R. Hoyle is Professor of Educational Administration at Texas A&M University and specializes in Leadership Training and Assessment and Future Studies. He is one of America's leading reformers in administrator training and is an authority on future studies. In a 2004 survey, Hoyle was selected by his peers as one of four “exceptional living scholars” in educational leadership. His interests in the study of the future have developed from living, studying, and teaching in England, Germany, Greece, Italy, New Zealand, Spain, Turkey, and South Africa, as well as several universities. His research and extensive writing about leadership, visioning, restructuring, quality management, and learning environments reflect a future thrust, and he is a popular consultant and speaker. His book titled Leadership and Futuring: Making Visions Happen, published by Corwin Press (1995), gained wide readership and was a best seller. Another book titled Leadership and the Force of Love: Six Keys to Motivating with Love (2002) is written for leaders in business, agriculture, military, education, and government, is also a best seller for Corwin Press. His latest work is a co-authored textbook due in spring of 2004 titled The CEO Superintendent: Standards-based Performance, also by Corwin Press. He has delivered numerous keynote addresses and distinguished lectures for conventions and universities, given papers on various topics for education, futurism, business, and agriculture-related conferences, and conducted management development seminars for corporations which include Tenneco, Trajan, and Philip Morris.

Among his honors are two Texas A&M University Awards for Distinguished Achievement in Teaching. In 1999 he was the recipient of the National Council of Professors of Educational Administration (NCPEA) first “Living Legend Award.” In 1995 Hoyle received the highly regarded Golden Deeds Award in recognition of his distinguished service to education in the State of Texas. In 1993, he was chair of the AASA National Commission on Standards for Superintendents and authored Professional Standards for the Superintendency. Hoyle has authored or co-authored over 150 publications which include books, articles, book chapters, and papers.

He attended Texas A&M on an athletic scholarship and served as a public school teacher, coach, and administrator. In 1984, Dr. Hoyle received the Award of Honor from the American Baseball Coaches Association. He chaired the Texas Future Superintendent Advisory Team and authored the report, “Superintendents for Texas School Districts: Solving the Crisis in Executive Leadership.”
