WHAT IS IT?     All county, regional and state Extension council members, program clients and volunteers are encouraged to participate.  The purpose is to:

WHAT HAPPENS?

7:30-10 a.m.                  Registration (First Floor Rotunda)

7:30-9 a.m.                    Continental breakfast, co-sponsored by Mizzou Alumni Association and University of Missouri Extension State Council for legislators, council members, faculty and staff (Senate Alcove)

8-9:30 a.m.                    Visits to legislators on your own

9:30 a.m.                      Rally for all Legislative day attendees (First Floor Rotunda)

10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.    In-Service Education Session for County Program Directors and other Extension faculty

11 a.m. - 1 p.m.             Box lunches available – ($10 per lunch, advanced registration is required.)

1-2 p.m.                        Continue visits with legislators on your own.

1:30 -2:30 p.m.              State Extension Council meeting for all county, regional and state council members, faculty and staff (Truman Building, Room 400) Change in agenda.

1:30                               Extension Supporters Rally - First Floor Rotunda

2:30 p.m.                      Day ends officially – You may continue legislative visits if desired.

Volunteers are to make appointments with legislators prior to Legislative Day; however, if you are unable to do so, drop-in visits are acceptable.  A rally will be held at 9:30 a.m. for all University supporters to hear legislative leadership address the group. Gov. Nixon has been invited to speak.

 

HOW WILL I GET THERE?   University of Missouri Extension supporters will carpool to the event. Contact your local Extension Center. Alternative parking suggestions will be posted on the UMEA Web site.

While there is no cost for the day's activities, if you wish to receive a box lunch, we must have your registration.

 

State Extension Council Chair Sam Hawkins to be honored: 

Sam Hawkins of Shelbina, Mo., has chaired the University of Missouri Extension State Council since 2004.  The 11 members of the state council provide support and advocacy for Extension programs of the University of Missouri and Lincoln University at all levels of government. State council members are a liaison between the 2,200 county extension council members across the state, the citizens they represent and University administration. Hawkins has chaired the Shelby County Extension Council and the Northeast Regional Extension Council.  In addition, he served as co-chair of the MU Extension County Council Leadership Development Committee. He has been an active member of the UM Alumni Alliance since 1998. Hawkins is known for his unflagging zeal for the land-grant Extension mission and for his ability to inform legislators, county commissioners and others about the value and importance of Extension’s work across Missouri.  All Extension supporters are encouraged to attend the Legislative Day banquet at 6:30 p.m., April 21, at Capital Plaza.
