H.C. Russell elected to CARET national executive committee
H.C. Russell, area credit manager for MFA Inc. and member of the MU Extension State Council, was elected to a two-year term on the national executive committee of CARET, the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities’ Council for Agriculture, Research, Extension and Teaching.
The 13-member executive committee is the governing body of CARET, the national grass-roots organization created by the APLU’s Division of Agriculture. The council advocates for increased support of the land-grant system of universities and works to help secure the necessary funding for research, extension and teaching.
“Our extension council members and customers of extension programs in Missouri have been good advocates for extension in their communities, counties and the state,” said Russell. “One of my tasks is to help establish as similar advocacy network to reach our federal funding partners.”
A resident of Clark, Mo., Russell has belonged to the state extension council since 2005 and has served as its chair. In this role, Russell has helped bring awareness of the value of MU Extension for Missourians to legislators, county commissioners and the governor’s office.
“We are very fortunate to have H.C.’s leadership on this important national committee,” said Vice Chancellor for Extension and Engagement Marshall Stewart. “H.C. will now be involved in the development of the national CARET program of work and its spring conference.”
