“EAT SMART, STAY HEALTHYŽ” HEALTH & TASTING FAIR

VISITS ROOSEVELT ELEMENTARY SPRING 2004

“Eat Smart, Stay HealthyŽ” was the 2004 slogan for the American Dietetic Association National Nutrition Month.  It was celebrated locally with an exhibit in schools drawing attention to the importance of making healthy food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits.

This Health & Tasting Fair was offered by the Family Nutrition Education Program to help support a balanced diet.  The purpose of the fair was to expose elementary age children to a variety of foods to taste from the Food Guide Pyramid in a health fair setting and to raise the awareness of all five food groups and food safety and physical fitness.

Students tasted from each food group and completed an exercise coordinating with that food group, like Watermelon Jacks from the Fruit group and Waffle Hop from the Grain group.
