4-H EXHIBIT RULES AND PROCEDURES
1. All fair exhibits must be in place by 8:30 p.m. on the Thursday night before the fair. Booths must also be constructed by 8:30 p.m.
2. All small animal(s) and poultry exhibits may be shown at the County Fair under 4-H in the Red Barn on the Fair Grounds. The Extension Office must be notified about all 4-H entries at the County Fair. Note: larger animals will be entered as a 4-H exhibit at the county fair, provided the Extension Office is notified in advance. Market swine projects at the County Fair must be shipped to market (limited to barrows only).
3. Entries must remain on exhibit until 5:00 p.m. on the Sunday of the fair.
4. All classes will be judged according to the Danish System with points and premium money paid.
5. An Exhibit Tag must be filled out and attached to each exhibit. Write the I.D. Number issued to you on top of each tag. A Superintendent will help you enter project names.
Each exhibit tag should have listed on the back: Time spent on project, and whether or not an adult helped with the project.
6. The Blue Exhibit Form listing all of your exhibits with corresponding class numbers should be turned in upon arrival.
7. The items listed under each project area are example only. Other similar items can be exhibited as long as they reflect skills learned in that particular project area in which the member is currently enrolled. Note: Members are limited to three exhibits per project area in which they are enrolled, unless otherwise stated.
8. Only 4-H members from Ste. Genevieve and Perry Counties are eligible to exhibit items currently constructed from project areas in which they are currently enrolled through the local Extension Office. Items exhibited must be the work of the 4-H member submitting the item. Items should reflect the skills they have learned in their 4-H project, the needs and interests of the 4-H’er, and quality workmanship. Use the 4-H project literature and the “Clover” for ideas and criteria.
9. Ten overall items will receive a Best of Show ribbon. Best of Class awards will be given as listed in the 4-H Exhibits. Winners of the Best of Class Awards will be announced before the auction on the Saturday of the fair.
10. No one is allowed in the exhibit hall during judging of exhibits other than assigned workers and judges.
11. Items are displayed at the risk of the individual 4-H member. The 4-H Staff and Ste. Genevieve County 4-H Council and Ste. Genevieve County Fairboard are not responsible for the loss or damage to exhibits or injury to exhibitors.
12. Where the item list states “any item made”, the 4-H member may display any item made in that project. This includes notebooks, file cards, photo displays, posters, or educational displays. Regardless of the project, the dimensions listed must be used.
Poster – No larger than 14” x 22”; flat only; do not fasten three-dimensional items to the poster.
Educational display –(Does not apply to the club educational booths.) Must not exceed 11 inches in height, 12 inches in depth (front to back) and 14 inches in width. Must include three-dimensional items and stand-alone. (Posters with items taped to them do not qualify as an educational display.)
Working models – These exhibits should show how things actually work (i.e. cutaway-sections of motors or computers) or can be used to help people identify parts such as of a motor or computer. Many times these exhibits are considered “hands-on” and can be handled by visitors. Items such as model wildlife plots, cut-away engines, or other similar displays should require floor space no larger than 14” x 22”.
