Basic Ecological Concepts – Ecological concepts such as succession, limiting factors, carrying capacity, biodiversity, habitat vs. niche, exotic/invasive species, preservation, restoration and management, and habitat relationships with wildlife in urban areas. Tour of remnant and restored glade areas, open oak woodlands, and reestablished tall grass prairie areas in various stages of restoration. Discussion will include pre-settlement landscape, restoration techniques and methods, fire ecology, invasive exotic species control methods, and general information related to these native plant communities. James Trager, Shaw Nature Reserve.
