Individuals who enjoy gardening, learning and sharing their interest with others make successful candidates for becoming a Master Gardener.

Accepted applicants agree to attend 42 hours of training, which is the
Level I Core Course, and to give 30 hours of volunteer service in the year following training. In subsequent years, a minimum of 20 volunteer hours and six educational hours are required to remain an active Master Gardener.

Master Gardeners have flexibility in choosing how and where to complete their volunteer service hours. Some members participate in group projects, while others work on individual projects. We always welcome members' ideas and energies to organize and begin new projects too!  Wherever the interest of a Master Gardener crosses with the needs of area residents, sits an opportunity for an approved Master Gardener project.

There is a nominal fee for Level I training, which covers the cost of  materials; but there are no annual membership fees.

To receive information about the next Level I class for St. Charles County, call University of Missouri Extension Center, 636.970.3000. You'll be asked to complete an application. If the number of candidates exceed the class capacity, there will be an interview process to fill the Level I class.
