Hot Tips for Keeping Cool

  • Prepare for physical activity by drinking plenty of water and other fluids.

  • Drink more fluids during the activity than your thirst dictates. It is difficult to drink too much.

  • Wear sun screen and reapply often.

  • Plan physical activity for cooler times of the day when possible.

  • Be aware of the combination of heat and humidity. As heat and humidity go up, cut back on outdoor physical activity.

  • Recognize and heed early warning signs of heat illness: cramps, excessive sweating, cold clammy skin, dizziness, nausea, headache.
