What Motivates You to Move?

A simple paper and pencil activity from the New You: Health for Every Body class can help in identifying what may motivate you to put more movement into your life. As you read each set of questions, keep in mind that there are no right or wrong answers, no good or bad scores. This self-appraisal can help you choose activities which will be a good fit for you.
As you review each statement,
record your response using the
following guidelines:
--if you generally agree with the statement, give it a 2.
--if you generally disagree with it, give it a 0.

Scoring

Total the points in each category.
If a score is 0 to 3, your motivation in that area is considered to be low; 4 to 6, it is moderate; and 7 to 10 is high.

Included with this issue is a chart that can help you match motives to some activities which might be a good fit for you. As you read through the chart, notice both the activities recommended for you as well as those which you may want to avoid. Someone in the New You program once noted that after doing this activity she now knew why walking by herself didn’t work. She scored very high in the Sociability area, and needed activities that provided plenty of interaction with others.

Use the chart to help you find new activities to try. You may awaken a real passion in yourself for something you might not have ever tried.
