House and Senate Staff Participate in MU Extension workshop
Nineteen House and Senate caucus, research and related staff members participated in an MU Extension legislative workshop July 8 to learn about online resources available to assist them in their work.
The group discovered map- and report-making capabilities available through the Community Issues Management (CIM) portal of the Center for Applied Research and Environmental Systems. CIM allows users to overlay data, such as location of schools and hospitals with legislative districts, and create maps to help decision-makers visualize the factors’ relationships. The workshop also introduced the staffers to census and other demographic data offered through the Office of Social and Economic Data Analysis. The workshop participants learned about interpreting data -- given margins of error – in the U.S. Census American Community Survey.
Adam Crumbliss, chief clerk of the House, said, “I heard exceptionally positive comments about the session. It seems like everyone was very happy and found it informative. “A CIM work group is being formed for legislative aides who wish to use the CIM resources more robustly and add data to the database.
