University of Missouri Extension works with funding partners to strengthen the economic viability of Missouri and sustain the environment through educational programs and resources.

The grants listed below may cover more than year.  The budget figures are the total amount awarded to that grant to date.

Family Nutrition Education Program
Missouri Department of Social Services   $8,633,967
10/1/2007-9/30/2008     Project manager: Jo Britt-Rankin

The Family Nutrition Education Program helps low-income Missourians increase their knowledge of food safety, improve eating habits and lifestyles and manage food resources.
The Connecting for Baby Project
Admn for Children and Families   $786,142
9/30/2006-9/29/2008     Project manager: Carol Mertensmeyer

The Connecting for Baby (CFB) project will work statewide with existing programs to teach young couples the skills they need to form a healthy marriage.  This will include training and equipping regional specialists so they can begin to make a difference by offering an intensive healthy marriage and relationship skills retreat, and sustained support to those participants as they begin the process of raising a family.

Novel Science-Technology Based Consumer Food Safety Education
USDA-CSREES   $418,153
9/1/2006-8/31/2009     Project manager: Ann Cohen

Despite having the safest food supply in the world, consumers in the United States experience approximately 76 million cases of foodborne illnesses each year -- many of these illnesses are caused by food prepared in the home. The University of Missouri, along with Columbia, Missouri's YouZeum (an interactive science center), will design interactive exhibit modules designed to educate consumers about the science behind food safety.

CYFAR
USDA   $134,000
5/1/2007-4/30/2008     Project manager: Jo Britt-Rankin

In collaboration with the Missouri Department of Corrections, University of Missouri Extension will undertake a 5-year family strengthening and support program for rural and urban families who have a parent incarcerated at one of three correctional centers in Missouri (located in Audrain, Cole and St. Francois counties).

Mo Investor Education & Protection
Investor Protection Trust   $115,259
10/1/2006-3/30/2008     Project manager: Robert Weagley

The HES Extension project will address both the lack of knowledge about basic investing and saving principles, as well as the lack of awareness of existing resources on investor education and protection.

Financial Planning Through Taxpayer Assistance
Certified Financial Planner Brd   $109,069
8/1/2007 - 7/31/2010     Project manager: Andrew Zumwalt

Financial planning education is most likely to have an impact on low-income families when it is delivered from a source they trust and at a time when families have money to manage.  For many low-income families, the only time they have a sum of money to manage is when they receive their income tax return.  For this reason, the Personal Financial Planning Extension division will expand the reach of the successful Missouri Taxpayer Education Initiative, a program that pairs the basics of personal financial planning with free tax preparation for low-income families.

ParentLink WarmLine
Missouri Department of Social Services   $104,744
7/1/2007-6-30/2008     Project manager: Carol Mertensmeyer

The ParentLink Warmline project will expand educational services to support child caregivers, including parents, relatives, and foster and adoptive parents.

LIFT / PIRC
Literacy Investment for Tomorrow   $91,000
10/1/2007-9-30/2008     Project manager: Carol Mertensmeyer

ParentLink will provide a toll-free parent information line; technical assistance to communities throughout the state on increasing parental involvement in schools; coordinate trainings and technical assistance visits to school districts; and expand its library to include parental involvement, academic achievement and community development information.

Comprehensive Health Grant for Statewide Training Center
Mo. Dept of Elementary and Secondary Education   $75,772
