Vice Provost’s Diversity Award

Purpose

The Vice Provost’s Diversity Award recognizes individuals or groups providing leadership in the area of diversity. This may include excellence in programs or other initiatives.

Award

The award is made each year. A cash award of $1,000, less applicable taxes will be awarded annually. Recognition is presented by the Vice Provost for Extension. A symbol of recognition will occur at a regional or campus event. Funds are to be used for program or professional development.

Eligibility

Applicants must be faculty or staff with an appointment in University of Missouri Extension. Individuals or groups may receive the award.

Criteria

Applications will be evaluated upon the extent to which the applicant’s efforts resulted in:

  • contributions to improvements in workplace climate,
  • expansion of programming or services in which diversity is emphasized,
  • increased diversity of audiences served, and 
  • creation or expansion of professional development opportunities relevant to the goal of improving diversity of Extension’s climate, programs and services.

Nominations and selection

Applications will be submitted to the Fellowship and Awards Committee each year. Nominations may be submitted by anyone within MU Extension. Self-nominations are accepted. The Fellowship and Awards Committee will review the applications to recommend the individual or group to receive the Diversity Award. 

A complete application will include: a cover sheet, a resume and a 1- to 3-page letter explaining how the applicant has helped to achieve diversity goals in extension. All nominations are to be supported by three letters of recommendation. The letters of recommendation should include a letter from a supervisor and two additional letters of support.
