Purpose
The Carl N. Scheneman Excellence in Teaching Award recognizes a University of Missouri Extension faculty member for planning, conducting and evaluating one extension educational activity conducted between June 1 and May 31 of a given year.

Award
Recipients receive up to $2,000 (based on actual expenses) for an approved professional development activity. A symbol or recognition is presented by the Vice Provost and Director of Cooperative Extension at a regional or campus event.

Eligibility
All University of Missouri Extension faculty members are eligible. Members of the immediate administrative staff of the Vice Provost and Director of Cooperative Extension, regional directors, campus extension administrators and members of the Fellowship and Awards Committee are not eligible.

Criteria
Nominees should have a primary role in completing or making significant progress toward accomplishing identifiable goals of an extension teaching program conducted in one year.

Nominations are evaluated on:

  1. Extent to which the educational activity reflects current University of Missouri Extension priority program areas

  2. Need for the educational activity

  3. Clear identification of the target audience

  4. Educational objectives

  5. Evaluation design

  6. Results achieved

  7. Innovation demonstrated by the educational activity.

Nominations and Selection
University of Missouri and Lincoln University campus and regional faculty and professional staff members may make a nomination by completing the attached nomination form. Nominations materials should include program materials, testimonials, success stories, letters of support and biographical information about the nominee.

Nominations are reviewed by the Fellowship and Awards Committee appointed by the Vice Provost and Director of Cooperative Extension. The committee — comprised of representatives of UMEA, Epsilon Sigma Phi, the UM campuses, Lincoln University and the Vice Provost's Office — makes recommendations to the Vice Provost, who makes the final selection.
