The
Family Nutrition Program (FNP) is a grant-funded program designed to increase the quality of
nutritional intake and help participants develop skills leading to better nutrition and
healthier lifestyles. The target audience includes, but is not limited to, children
and youth.
Some of the curriculum used is Food Safety Express, Professor Popcorn, and
Delicious Decisions in the elementary schools. Hooked on Health and Balancing
Act are used at the junior and senior high levels. Great Beginnings, a program
with the focus on nutrition during pregnancy, is taught in high school child
development classes. Other areas of concentration include fitness and physical
activity.
The information that is used in the curriculums can include safe food
handling and storage, fad diets and eating disorders, budgeting food dollars, and the food
pyramid.
