Agriculture Mailing List Update
This will be my last call if you want to remain on our newsletter mail list. Many of you have requested to receive the newsletter by both regular mail and through the internet by e-mail. By e-mail we can alert you quicker to upcoming meetings and agriculture information. Also at our web site we can provide more detailed information than in the newsletter that is mailed. Our telephone number and other contact information can be found in the letterhead.
2004 Missouri Century Farm Program
To qualify as Missouri Century Farm, farms must meet the following guidelines. The same family must have owned the farm for 100 years or more as of Dec. 31, 2004. The family shall consist of direct descendants only. The farm must be at least 40 acres of the original land and make a financial contribution to the overall farm income. Pesticide Private Applicator Certification & Recertification Training
We still have 45 farmers and farm workers whose private applicator pesticide license will expire in 2004. Many will expire on March 31. To be certified or recertified, you must watch a 70 minute training video. To make an appointment to watch the video or if you have questions about your license, you can call our office at 545-3516.
Marketing Outlook and Agriculture Policy Meeting
The meetings will be on March 8, 2004 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., at the Clinton Building in Sikeston, MO and March 9, 2004 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., at the Cape County Extension office in Jackson. Topics to be covered are listed below. Speakers will be from the University of Missouri’s Food and Agricultural Policy Research Institute, (FAPRI)

Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) Signup
Missouri landowners interested in EQIP should submit applications by April 2 to be eligible for the next round of funding. EQIP is a voluntary conservation program that promotes agricultural production and environmental quality. Through EQIP, farmers receive financial and technical assistance to help install structural conservation practices and to implement management systems that promote conservation. For more information contact your county USDA Service Center.
