Scotland County
Is located in the northeast corner of the state, with Iowa being to the north and one county from us on the east side.  Interestingly enough even though we are far from most larger cities we are nearly the same distance between them as well, approximately 160 miles from Kansas City, St. Louis and Des Moines.

Memphis is the county seat with a population of a little over 2000.  We are primarily an agricultural community with areas of crops and timber.  We have several wildlife areas and lakes.  The birthplace and home of Ella Ewing (the gentle giantess) was Gorin, one of the towns in our county.  You may read more about her at the Downing House Museum located in Memphis as well as the Underground Railroad and many other interesting facts about Scotland County.
