Putnam County Ag Programs              

Agricultural Programs/Seminars

    The Putnam County Extension Office assists producers and citizens with educational programs on a wide array of topics and issues. The programs highlighted below are regularly scheduled events that this office is strongly involved with. In addition, we offer programs on topics such as Estate Planning, Crop Production, Farm Marketing, Livestock Production, Farm Record-keeping, Livestock AI classes, Pesticide License Certification Classes, and many others. Putnam County Fair

The Putnam County Fair is the county’s premiere annual agricultural event. It is held the Tuesday through Saturday after Labor Day each year. The Livestock shows, which include open (any age) in addition to junior (4-H and FFA) divisions, include draft horses, swine, beef and dairy cattle, riding horses, dairy goats, sheep, poultry, and riding horses. There is also competition in horticulture, flowers, and foods.

Ag / Extension Information Night

Every February is Putnam County’s Ag Information Night. The program includes 3 concurrent sessions and dinner which is provided by several local businesses. Interested persons can attend different sessions on a variety of topics in agriculture, horticulture and home economics as well as other fields. Topics are selected to be timely and of interest to several folks. The 2006 program will be February 8th so mark your claendar!

Quarterly Market Outlook Conferences

The Extension Office normally holds quarterly market outlook conferences on the first Monday or Tuesday in January, April, and October. These are 2 way telephone conferences with University of Missouri Marketing Specialists where you can ask questions as well as hear their outlook on crop and livestock prices. They also update what’s going on in Washington on Farm Policy. Printed materials are given out. 

Ag Lenders Seminar

The Putnam County Extension Office in cooperation with the University of Missouri sponsors an annual Agricultural Lenders Seminar every fall.  This program is to assist lenders (bankers, implement dealers, FSA-Ag Credit, etc.) in working with their ag clients.  Yearly price outlook and management information is provided at these meetings.  This meeting is held in Kirksville, normally. 

University of Missouri Field Days

The University of Missouri maintains several research farms and facilities throughout Missouri. Many of them hold annual field days to update Agricultural producers on the latest things going on in Agriculture.
