Putnam County's 4-H program is a hand-on, fun, and educational learning experience designed to teach life skills to children ages 5 to 18. It is also a family activity as parents serve as volunteer leaders, teachers, and all around helpers. It can help young people develop self-esteem, problem-solving skills, and leadership experience as they face the challenges of a complex world. Children can become involved in many activities that will expand their minds, make lasting friendships, and help improve their communities. Listed below are the current clubs active in Putnam County and some information about them.
As you can see, you can become involved no matter where you live (in our county or somewhere else). These 4-H Clubs have something to offer everyone. Each club has its own size (under 15 members to over 35 members) and activities. Young people ages 5 to 7 are involved in the Clover Kids portion of 4-H while those ages 8 to 18 learn about many different projects. Regular members (8 to 18) can be enrolled in beef production, computers, food preparation, gardening, geology, horses, leadership, poultry, public speaking, rabbits, woodworking, and many others. 4-H members complete their year at the end of September. They are eligible for awards, scholarships, and other recognition. Many of these are picked as a result of report forms that members fill out. A Word file of the Putnam County 4-H Project Report Form is able to be downloaded by clicking here. Word 97 or higher is required to download this file. Contact our office if you have any questions. (Special thanks to Aaron Schnakenberg for creating this form). Contact the Putnam County University of Missouri Extension Office for more information about 4-H here. Other information about the 4-H program can be found at the Missouri 4-H Page.
