4-H Clover Kid Program

Several years ago, a unique 4-H program was developed here in Missouri. It is known as the Clover Kids program and it is designed for children ages 5 to 7 years old. This program is designed to introduce kids in that age group to 4-H by letting them experience many activities. In this program they will learn how to get along and work with others; how to be a part of the group; explore many different interests; and build their self-confidence.

Adult leaders work with these kids in a small group setting where they can give each child more individual attention. The goal of the Clover Kids program is to get them excited about 4-H and then to continue on as 4-H'ers as they get older. This program is designed to be non-competitive so that these kids can learn and have fun without the pressure of competition. In Putnam County, this program is run as a part of the regular 4-H clubs so that these children can also experience how a regular 4-H club operates. To find out where these clubs are located and when they meet, go to the Putnam County 4-H Clubs page.

Clover Kids make many different things at their meetings which are displayed at the 4-H Building at the Putnam County Fair in September. Some of the items that have been made by these kids in past years include refrigerator magnets, flower vases, sand art, Christmas tree ornaments, tie-dye shirts, homemade bird feeders, and several types of crafts.

1999 marked the second year for the Putnam County Clover Kids Day Camp. Clover Kids from throughout Putnam County got together at the 4-H Building for a fun, activity packed day. This allowed them to meet several other kids and to learn and work as a team. This year's theme was "It's A Bugs Life" and the kids made bug catchers and other fun stuff. It was great success and is planned for this year again. Below are some pictures from this year's event.
