The Dairy Grazing Manual is intended to help producers understand the principles and concepts of operating and managing a pasture-based dairy. The objective of the manual is to give dairy producers a better understanding of management-intensive grazing and to provide an insight into various factors that affect the profitability of a pasture-based operation. Although the text often refers to conditions in Missouri, many of the principles and concepts described here apply to operations throughout the Midwest and mid-Atlantic states.
Readers will find in-depth discussion of the day-to-day practical concerns of pasture-based dairying. A densely illustrated guide to selecting forage crops will help producers meet goals related to annual forage yield and milk production per acre as well as plant persistence, long-term sustainability, and cost per unit of milk produced.
