Rural towns have been dwindling in size and economic activity in recent decades. This publication addresses some of the reasons why and encourages community members to change that trend. Small towns can be maintained, but it takes work and vision. This manual discusses important components of community development and also provides tips for organizing town meetings, where to begin and how to proceed with a plan for building economic activity.
Efforts in Hamilton and Salisbury, two small mid-Missouri towns, are discussed as examples of these ideas in action.
