Developing positive relationships with wineries is a necessity for commercial grape growers. Working with a winery to ensure grapes meet winery needs is a critical step in developing and maintaining positive relationships. At the 2011 Midwest Grape and Wine Conference, researchers, wine grape growers and industry experts shared information on laying out vineyard blocks based on soil types, designing and managing vineyards to produce high quality grapes and wines, vineyard practices to optimize vine productivity and fruit quality, and harvesting vineyard blocks according to variations in fruit composition and quality during the Symposium on Establishing and Managing Vineyards to Meet or Exceed Winery Specifications.
