Hugh Denney
Department of Community Development

As cities grow and rural areas decline in population, the future of community interaction is questioned. This publication is a scientific study that looks at how transportation, communication and vital services such as hospitals can be used and placed to best meet community needs. It establishes the idea of growth centers: centers of business that provide necessities to sparsely populated areas. Data basic to community planning is central to the text. Examples include showing the location of major connecting railroads, television and radio stations and health facilities. Information on national and state demographics can be found in this publication.
