This 612 acre timber and grassland farm contains 150 acres of fescue/clover and 55 acres of Caucasian Bluestem. Steve runs a 90 cow herd and backgrounds his calves to 700 pounds. This farm contains 30 paddocks. Most of the water supply is provided from live water. One area is watered from a newly drilled well, pipeline & tanks. Lots of high tensile electric fencing.
Dr. Swink, DVM, is a 20 year veteran of intensively managed rotational grazing. A large operation with paddocks 10 - 15 acre in size. Water is supplied in all paddocks. The forage base is a diverse mixture of grasses and legumes. His system is low input, high production.
The grazing unit has 20 - 5 acre fields for 70 - 80 animal units. The total farm is 190 acres. The system is in its second year. Water is supplied to each paddock from a well. The forage base is cool season grasses and legumes.
The Zieglers contains 13 fields with Caucasian Bluestem, fescue/red clover/ladino/lespedesa and Eastern Bamagrass/birdsfoot trefoil. Water supplies include a well, a spring development, and a hilltop pond with an above ground pipeline. Nine years of intensive grazing management experience.
The farm has a grass program that includes fescue/legume mixes, Caucasian Bluestem, Eastern Gamagrass, Big Bluestem, and native-warm-season mixes. A riparian area has been developed along Willams Creek. The farm has 2 spring developments, one with a solar powered pumping system, with 10,000 feet of pipeline. There are more than 50 paddocks.
Bill & Karen Rives operate a cow/calf operation on 52 acres. Primarily a cool season grass base, this will be the first full year in operation.
The Cleair farm is 90 acres with an average paddock size of 5 acres. Most of the forage base is fescue. Caucasian Bluestem makes up the rest. The farm has a spring development for part of the water supply.
The Kinkead have 30 paddock on a fescue/clover forage base. They have 2 spring developments with one being pumped through a 6000' pipeline to a mixture of summer & all-weather watering system. They are users of stockpiled fescue for winter grazing.
