The following abstract describes a publication that is only available for purchase. A link to ordering information is on this page.

North Central Regional Publication
Originally published by the University of Wisconsin, this publication has been adapted for regional distribution

Does it rain inside your home? Are your sidewalks beginning to disintegrate? Inspect your home or potential home for disrepair. When properly maintained, houses can last for hundreds of years, but if left unrepaired, damage can quickly worsen. And disrepair is not always obvious at first glance.

Find out how to evaluate a house. This publication has checklists for each part of a house. It gives tips on how to determine quality, and to detect signs of repair work or damage. The roof, porch, siding, chimneys, foundations and landscaping are external aspects to consider when evaluating a house; a list of internal structures are discussed in this publication as well.

Several tips for energy efficiency and conservation can be found in this publication. Finally, house diagrams and a glossary define common construction terms so that you can understand your contractor or repairman and be a more informed home owner.
