Campus Ecology, the National Wildlife Federation's program, is an excellent resource for college campuses. They provide publications, including Four Rs - Refuse, Reduce, Reuse & Recycle Resource Packet, workshops, internships, and networking:

The College and University Recycling Council (CURC) was created to provide information exchange between institutions of higher education so they may learn collectively about waste reduction, recycling and waste management issues. CURC has a membership of 150 college and university based waste management officials from the US, Mexico, Canada and Europe.

University of Colorado Recycling Program, rated number one in the country by the National Recycling Coalition, is a joint effort of the University's Facilities Management, Housing, and the Student Union Environmental Center. CU pays only $16 per ton in tipping fees and still manages to save $60,000 per year in avoided disposal fees by diverting 40% of campus waste from landfills. In addition, the sale of recyclable materials generates over $40,000 annually. More than 12 academic projects have resulted from the program each year. Students are learning that recycling pays!

The University of Oregon Recycling Program is a good example of collaboration among administration, students, facilities management, and housing. The website is very informative and includes "how to" information for establishing a recycling program.

The University of Waterloo, Canada, has reduced it's solid waste by 48% from 1987 to the end of 1998. Its website provides a wide base of information from its audit, recycling and composting to easy steps to cut waste.

MSW Management is the journal for the Solid Waste Association of North America.

Recycling Today is a business magazine for recycling professionals.

Biocycle is the journal of (large-scale) composting and organics recycling.
