The Office of Waste Management (OWM) applies University resources to statewide efforts to address the environmental, economic, technical and social issues associated with waste management. OWM partners with governments, businesses, and communities to develop environmentally sound waste reduction and waste management strategies.

The OWM activities currently focus on three areas:

    • Household Hazardous Waste Project provides assistance and education to promote consumer awareness, source reduction, safe handling, and sound management for hazardous wastes generated from households. This site contains guidesheets, technical bulletins and links to additional resources.

Pollution Solutions provides easy to use, on-line resources for business and industry. The site includes strategies for pollution prevention, waste reduction, recycling and waste exchange. It also contains information on environmental laws and regulations, and links to databases containing thousands of material safety data sheets (MSDS). Specific information on equipment and processes is provided for several industry sectors.

    • The Green Campus program promotes waste reduction, recycling, conservation, and the increased purchase and use of environmentally friendly products and materials on university campuses.

The OWM is a recipient of the 1998 Environmental Protection Agency, Region VII Pollution Prevention Award.
