Information on the 2008 Master Gardener Training Classes
The Northwest Missouri Region of University of Missouri Extension covers an area of fifteen counties. The interest is great for Master Gardener training in many communities. In order to provide training for residents of this large area we will be utilizing ITV (interactive television) technology. The program will be presented live with the presenter at one location and other sites receiving the presenter over the ITV system.
At this time, we are still ascertaining the amount of interest in each community before making the final decision on which ITV sites will be used. Proposed communities include Albany, Bethany, Chillicothe, Jameson, Grant City, Princeton, St. Joseph, and Trenton.
The training will be held on Thursday evenings beginning March 6th and held each Thursday evening through May 29th. Starting time is 6 pm with each session wrapping up by 9 pm.
With ITV we will be able to bring experts in the horticulture topics to you. This will allow us to offer the thirteen sessions for only $95.00 per person or $165.00 per couple. This fee will include one University of Missouri Extension Grounds for Gardening manual per person or couple, plus other handout materials.
Classes will include topics such as: Plant Growth & Development, Plant Diseases, Soils, Vegetables, Herbaceous Perennials, Turf, Insects, Home Fruit Production, Woody Ornamentals, Grow Native (landscaping with native plants), pesticide use, and basic landscaping.
Below, you will find an application form for the training. Download the form (pdf), fill out the application, and return it to the Buchanan County Extension office by Monday, February 25th. If you have applied in the past and the program was not held just simply send the payment and update any information that may have changed and write on the form “information on file”.
