Every January, one of the premier vegetable conferences in the U.S. is held in St. Joseph, Missouri. The Great Plains Vegetable Conference is hosted by the Extension Services of Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota. Presentations from University researchers, Extension staff, and growers give well-rounded coverage of many subjects. Topics include all aspects of vegetable production, small fruits, flowers, marketing, and many others. A special pre-conference workshop on growing in high tunnels is held on the day before the main conference. High tunnels, sometimes called hoop houses, are unheated greenhouse-like structures used for season extension. This year, we are adding a new workshop on Thursday. The topic will be Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). Learn how to start and run a CSA from successful growers. The 2008 conference schedule is as follows: Thursday, January 10 - High Tunnel Workshop and CSA
